GRAND CANYON Continued...

This is continuation of my last post: Please read the post below first for chronological order =)

This is the awesome view I got to see each time we rested (which was frequent!). The altitude was harsh on my cardiovascular system!

Some people have the option to ride mules down to the bottom. I am personally glad we walked: for numerous reasons, but mainly because mules smell really disgusting! And they leave a trail of smell wherever they walk.. So bad.


Once we'd dropped our stuff off at the campsite, we hiked another 45 mins out to Plateau Point. A flat area of land that 'juts' out into the canyon, giving you a 360 degree view of the canyon. It was here that we got our first sighting of the Colorado River. It was amazing!







It looks deceiving, but the distance from there to the river is at least the same as what we'd done that day! 4 hour hike! It's just really hard to fathom how massive it is. We couldn't even estimate the width of the river from up here.

Our adventurous and daring friend Brian decided to lead us onto this big rock which was VERY scary. He sits precariously on the edge like he's a pro... actually, maybe he is a pro at doing such silly things. But I am glad he made me get out there cos the view was even better from there. We sat there for an hour or so, then went back to the 'mainland'.





Don't worry mum, Jen was holding onto my feet... and it wasn't my idea... Don't show Becky, ok?

We ate dinner overlooking the river. Such a unique and memorable experience!
Don't know where this text will end up on the page but the photo looking back to the top actually shows the path we took to get down if you look really closely for the zigzagging accros it...

Yep, maybe it's too hard to see, but that's the hike we did. Then it was back to camp for rugging up time, and a bit of Phase 10! That didn't last long cos it was SOO cold that we decided we'd survive better in our sleeping bags.
